Discover the Science of Saltmarshes

Saltmarshes are vastly underappreciated, especially given the many ecological services they provide. This National Science Week, dig deep into the importance of coastal saltmarshes with a series of Discover the Science of Saltmarshes events.

Discover the Science of Saltmarshes are a series of events across Whyalla, catering to all age groups. School groups with students between Years 4 – 10 can take a trip to 8-Mile Creek, and explore the saltmarshes with guru Dr Peri Coleman and marine biologist Dr Shelley Paul. For a more up-close experience, the two experts will also be running hands-on workshops about samphires.

Enthusiasts may also marvel at the work by Samaritan College Year 9 students, whose ‘Saltmarsh Project’ work will be on display at the Middleback Arts Centre throughout National Science Week.

Discover the Science of Saltmarshes is brought to you by Natural Resources Eyre Peninsula in conjunction with Eyre and Western Regional Science Hub. For more details about the suite of events, head to the National Science Week website.
