South Australians headed to a special night at the museum to discover the essence of the ocean.

Ocean Essence was a special event presented by Inspiring South Australia and the South Australian Museum. The night featured 5 scientists, each given just 10 minutes to tell their tale of the deep blue sea. The lure of the ocean saw 180 people gather at the SA Museum to hear from Dr Charlie Huveneers, Dr Cath Kemper, Prof Alan Cooper, Prof Michelle Waycott and Andrea Boyd. The audience were enthralled by the talks, and by the end of the night, each scientist had their own fan base.

The night was hosted by Dr Paul Willis, who also chaired a Q & A panel, delving deeper into topics such as great white sharks, marine plants and much more. A photographic exhibition by photographer and marine educator Carl Charter topped off a night of ocean science.

Ocean Essence was held on 20 September 2017 at the South Australian Museum. To keep up to date with events from Inspiring South Australia, subscribe to our newsletter using the form in the footer.
