The Questacon Smart Skills Program is touring in the South East South Australia region and northern Victoria during Term 1, 2019. In addition to presenting in-school STEM workshops for students they will also be conducting FREE STEM based, Professional Learning workshops for teachers. Registrations are currently open for workshop 1!

Questacon Smart Skills teacher workshops are FREE, 90-minute workshops for secondary teachers of science, design & technology, mathematics and interested Year 6 teachers or teachers of other subjects.

The workshops focus on inquiry learning, innovative thinking and hands-on prototyping.

Teacher Workshop 1 looks specifically at earthquakes – we will first construct a small shake platform out of simple materials to simulate an earthquake, and then build tower structures which will have their strength and integrity tested atop the shake platform. A simple phone app is used to measure the magnitude of our ‘earthquakes’ and investigate a number of open-ended investigations and construction options. This highly collaborative workshop is intentionally open-ended and can be applied across the Australian curriculum including design, earth science, physics, or maths lessons. It is the first in a series of three workshops; the remainder of the opt-in follow-up sessions are conducted via video link throughout the rest of the calendar year.

We encourage you to join us at one of the six teacher workshops being held in the South East South Australia region.

The date, time and location of each workshop appear below. Follow the corresponding link to book the workshop you wish to attend. Workshop 2 registrations will open upon completion of workshop 1.
