Share a book with a special child these summer holidays – that’s the call from Australia’s Chief Scientist, who is encouraging everyone to take the Storytime Pledge.

Dr Alan Finkel is encouraging all adults to pick up a book and read it with a special child, whether it be¬†your own daughter, son, grandchild, nephew, niece or friend’s child. He’s encouraging everyone to take the Storytime Pledge, which will help to prepare Australia’s youngest generation for a future full of possibilities.

Books are a portal into the future. They help to build vocabulary, foster creativity, improve reasoning, open discussion and much more. Books shared between loved ones also nurtures love and brings joy and are the perfect companion to help young minds navigate a life that, thanks to technology, is ever changing.

You can check out more Storytime Pledges from scientists and thinkers across Australia by following the hashtag: #StoryTimePledge. Why not make your own pledge and share it with others. To get you inspired, read Dr Alan Finkel’s pledge.
